I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was nineteen years old. However, I was around fifteen or sixteen years old when my cycling began. Today, I have over thirty years of diagnosed experience with the disorder. This blog is a record of my present and past journey with bipolar disorder.
To be very specific I was diagnosed with rapid cycle bipolar disorder I. However, today it would be classified as ultradian cycle. Which is an unofficial clinical term that means I can cycle from mania to depression within a twenty-four hour.
I know some of you are thinking that just sounds like I’m moody and I should take some hormones. Or that I’m impulsive and I should just grow up. Oh, how I wish it were that simple. In fact, at one point in my life I thought both of those things myself. It did not end well. All those moments managed to do was prove that I am in fact bipolar.
With that said, I think it is important to state, if you are looking for a stable one subject/focus blog this may not be the blog for you. This blog is going to be all over the place. From me training my service dog, what I’m crocheting, poetry I wrote years ago, and just my general thoughts and philosophies on life. Sometimes it will be in the form of essays. Other times I might make a video. Sometimes my post will be daily. Other times nonexistent. One day you will think to yourself, this is the most well written or spoken explanation of what it is like to live with bipolar disorder. Other days you will wonder how you will ever decipher the ramblings of nonsense. Basically, you will have a front row seat to my ups and downs.
Because that is the point of this blog. To mirror the ever changing, ever cycling mind of someone with bipolar disorder. And hopefully, if we are all lucky, we (including me) will learn something about ourselves and/or about that person we know with bipolar disorder.
